Spa & Wellness Experts And Practitioners To Tackle Professionalism And Management Issues At The Inaugural Asian Spa & We
Singapore - Senior industry experts and practitioners from Asia's spa and wellness industry are participating at the inaugural Asian Spa & Wellness Management Conference & Exhibition 2010 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Singapore on 1-2 September 2010.
Despite the growth and much talked about potential in this industry, the spa and wellness sector in Singapore has witnessed some set backs with the closures of some spa establishments. This has prompted consumer watchdog CASE and the government to introduce tighter regulations in the industry.
This has also led many to question on the level of management competence in the industry. “The Asian spa and wellness industry is a relatively new business for many. Asia as a whole is only beginning to invest in training and development for its staff and learning about the various business models and practices of established companies worldwide. There is still a lot of room to grow,” says Mr Elson Lee, Director of the Spa Wellness Group, a leading spa operator and training provider in Asia.
Nevertheless, the Asian spa industry has seen a lot of indigenous creations and innovations in terms of methods and products. The use of natural materials and environmentally friendly products and processes in places such as Thailand and Bali are much sought after by consumers today. "There's been a massive proliferation in the number of spas," says Gerard Bodeker, a professor at Oxford University Medical School and author of the book, Understanding the Global Spa Industry. "There's a huge awareness in global value and interest in Asian therapies, so Asian countries are now actively discovering and promoting their own health and heritage. There's an across-the-board revival of interest in Asia in indigenous health traditions."
Despite the industry's potential, the question for many is how can business owners professionally manage and achieve the industry's fullest potential to be able to compete on a global scale?
The Asian Spa & Wellness Management Conference & Exhibition 2010 is organised by The Pinnacle Group International and supported by The Singapore Tourism Board, Spa & Wellness Association Singapore, Spa Association Singapore, Thai Spa Association, Bali Spa & Wellness Association, Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Coalition.
